The new Job Support Scheme (JSS) is replacing the The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS)

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) was originally set to close on the 31st October 2020, however after a new national lockdown being announced, this has been extended to December (more details to follow as we receive a central government announcement. The original deadline for submitting furlough claims in respect of furlough to the 31st October 2020 would have been the 30th November 2020. We would still recommend making sure that furlough in respect of claims to the 31st October 2020 are filed by the 30th November 2020. Please make sure that any Furlough in respect of the period 1st July 2020 through to the 31st October 2020 is made by the cut off deadline of the 30th November 2020.

The new Job Support Scheme (JSS)

The JSS is due to come into effect on 1 November. The scheme will now see employers paying five percent of the employees’ wage for hours not worked. The hours that employees will have to work will be reduced to 20% of their normal working hours.

With the new national lockdown being announced on the 31st October 2020, at present we are not aware how this will affect the existing plans of the Job Support Scheme (JSS) = More details are to follow.

Example: a typical full-time employee in the hospitality industry is paid an average of £1,100 per month. Under the Jobs Support Scheme for open businesses, they will still take home at least £807 a month. All the employer needs to pay is a total of £283 a month or just £70 a week; the government will pay the rest.

The guidance is long and complex. But we will be on hand at every stage to help along the way.
